Lovely post. I remember the markets in France and California, and sadly, my home in South Carolina offers no such abundance. Although, I will share that our garden here is the best we’ve ever achieved. I think there are not enough people here to incentivize local farmers.

Enjoy your bounty Barbara … and share another one of your authentic recipes with us - I so look forward to them.

Hi Barbara, what I take away from your lovely post is the importance of mindfulness. Every chirp of a bird, every new bud of a flower is worthy of one's undivided attention and admiration,. Monforte is a wonderful place, my wife and I were there several years ago, and being there one is swimming in such moments, there are impossible surprises around every corner. But the truth is, the moments are everywhere, and sometimes one has to create one's own; in California we planted 22 (Italian varietal) olive trees on a hillside by our home; we'll give them names, maybe we will eventually be able to make oil. To previous poster, Dia, last night we had Erbalucce di Caluso (Piemonte), and tonight we will be tasting Trebbiano Spoletino (Umbria) with friends, bringing a bit of Italy to us! Two must-haves for your newly conceived shop.

Sounds like we are on the same wave length!!!! Between Monforte and the California wine country, life can be so very beautiful, in the simplest of ways, can't it??? Enjoy!!

Hi Barbara - I own a wine and spirits shop in New York. I am in the process of re-creating the shop to focus on Italian wines, region by region. This is how I chanced upon your work. Now, I am having a wonderful time continuing to follow your life abroad. Your commentary on local wines/spirits is especially welcome! Mille grazie.

As always, your days are dreamy and perfect. Despite the annoying, random “challenges!” Thank you for sharing your daily, slow Italian life with us. Thankful for what I have and my life too, but still always dreaming of one like yours in 🇮🇹 Italy! Stay well and raise a spritz to all of your readers during your next aperitivo. Cin cin!

Good morning Barbara!

Going to the street market was almost a ritual when I was still living at home. In Turin there are so many street markets, but the inconvenient is that they are open only in the morning during the week. Only on Saturday they are open the whole day and they get pretty crowded, especially with all those people who cannot do their grocery shopping during the week because of work.

It is a pity that in the area where I live in Berlin, there is no market worth this name. I would need to travel at least 45' to one hour to go to a decent street market, which is in one of the most ethnical area of Berlin. Most of the time I then settle with what I found in the supermarket.

Yesterday I went to a Chinese supermarket and bought a Chinese yam and a bitter gourd. Looking forward to some cooking today!

Holidays are just around the corner and even if tired, I only have 4 more working days to go before leaving the rainy weather of Berlin for the sunny one in Spain!

Have a beautiful summer!
